2008 Junior Faculty Workshop Paul Hart, 2008 Division Chair-Elect The Junior Faculty Workshop was held on Saturday, August 9th. The agenda for the day included a series on round table discussion groups. Group composition for each session changed throughout the day allowing junior faculty to spend time with all participants and all faculty throughout the day. Following introductions, there were two sessions during the morning. The first focused on research challenges and strategies. The second provided an opportunity for junior faculty to discuss projects they were working on and obtain feedback from senior faculty. After lunch everyone joined the participants of the doctoral consortium for Paul Grey’s talk that Brian Butler mentioned above. This was followed by a session on strategies for developing an academic career and identifying ones research community. The final session of the afternoon was led a senior faculty panel on “Things I Learned on the Way to Tenure”. The Workshop was very successful. I am grateful to all of the senior faculty who participated in the event. The Division should be very encouraged by the talent and enthusiasm of our junior faculty.
